A Silver Lining in the Midst of the Financial Crisis

CGP’s Intellectual Exchange Program is pleased to announce a funding opportunity for small grants of up to $10,000 available for projects falling within CGP program guidelines. Projects must commence by March 31, 2009 and may be up to 12 months in duration.

For 2008, CGP has awarded almost $120,000 to Japan-America Societies (JAS) in the US for capacity building and networking grants. Congratulations to JAS Central Ohio on behalf of the JAS Midwest Network, JAS Dallas/Fort Worth, JAS Georgia, JAS Pennsylvania, JAS Tennessee, JAS Washington DC, and Japan Society of San Diego & Tijuana.

2. Hogaku Concert: New Sounds of Japan 2009 (Jan 10)

Co-hosted by and presented at the Asia Society, the Hogaku Concert will consist of a pre-performance lecture at 7 pm, followed by a concert at 8 pm by Hayashi Ensemble Fuji-Zakura and Passion of Asia.

3. Japanese Mood: Portraits of Contemporary Choreographers (Jan 8-14)

At the Nippon Gallery in the Nippon Club, view the works of Peggy Jarrell Kaplan, a New York based photographer who captures the artistic as well as personal moods of 33 Japanese contemporary choreographers/dancers.
